They were incredibly helpful from the initial run-up to our stay, messaging about how best they could help us, to checking in and providing us with local recommendations. The Shiel itself was absolutely stunning, both inside and out. It had everything we needed, was so clean and had a lovely outdoor area. It was a perfect stay for our family (incl a baby and a dog) would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Our visit to The Shiel was everything we were looking for. The cottage itself is stunning throughout and immaculately clean. We had the most comfortable sleep we’ve had in a long time as the mattress was just perfect and the bedlinen was of very high quality. The wood burner stove in the lounge made the place so comfy and cosy in the evening and the little walled garden is just lovely to sit and have our morning coffee.
We had some lovely walks very near to the property and Perth is only a short drive away. The A9 was so accessible and allowed us to explore more of the Perthshire countryside and attractions.
The hosts Philip and Freda could not have been more welcoming and helpful. They left very thoughtful extras like homemade chutney and lovely toiletries. The complimentary logs were so appreciated for our Autumn nights holiday.
We had such a lovely time at The Shiel and can’t wait to come back.G & K Glasgow

We have just returned home from the most amazing weekend, 2 couples. The house was perfect for us, plenty of space, and it had absolutely everything you needed and more. The complimentary bottle of Prosecco was a lovely treat on our arrival. The owners were very helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable for us. Thank you Freda & Philip we will definitely be staying again.

We had a wonderful stay in The Shiel. Great reception by Freda and Philip. We arrived much later than planned (9 hours😭) and they gave us such a warm welcome. Much to see in the area. Even if you don’t want to drive a long time. There are trails within a 30 minute (nice scenic) drive from the house. Wonderful Chatni restaurant (walking distance) and Glover Arms (short drive). Want to cook yourself? Try Gloagburn Farm for nice ingredients. You can have great lunch there too.

A stunning cottage in beautiful countryside. Everything you could possibly need was provided for. The beds were so comfortable and the bathroom and furnishings were modern and clean. Freda was warm and friendly and gave us lots of info on the cottage and nearby amenities. We will be recommending this to family and friends.

A home away from home! Soooo easy to feel right at home there, we loved the quiet! The place is so spacious and comfortable. We came with bits we thought we could need but everything is there (even hairspray!….which can be helpful in Scotland😉)…a very thoughtful setting with coffee, pods, tea and even milk! Nothing is left to chance and everything is set up to settle right in.

The Shiel was a luxurious and secluded base for our time in the Perth area. I once had an owner become furious at "only receiving a 4-star review": the reason for that is simple: 5 stars should be truly reserved for top-tier places like this one. The clincher is the hosts, Freda and Philip. The couldn't have been more gracious and helpful.

Fantastic long weekend at The Shiel. Clean, comfortable, airy and very relaxing. Everything you need and it all just works! Great hosts who are welcoming and helpful. If you’re looking for a base to explore from or somewhere peaceful to unwind (or both), this is it.

Freda was incredibly welcoming and showed us around the steading upon arrival. She had gone out of her way to accommodate our toddler with an adorable rocking toy and her own baby towel which was greatly appreciated! We were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco, milk and coffee already provided and everything else we could ever need, they have really thought of everything! We had the most amazing stay and the venue is just gorgeous. Would highly recommended.

Stayed at The Shiel for 3 nights. Unfortunately it wasn’t long enough. What a perfect home to stay in. Very spacious, clean and tidy and very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Lovely part of the country with great views from the house. We used the outdoor BBQ on two of the nights. Blankets provided along with a very cosy firepit. The owners are so nice and on hand if needed. Great stay overall. We would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely place.
